About Your Friends & Neighbors

Your Friends & Neighbors is a dark comedy/crime-drama series created by Jonathan Tropper and starring Jon Hamm, Amanda Peet, and Olivia Munn. It premiered in April 2025 and was quickly renewed for additional seasons.

The premise is basically:
A wealthy hedge-fund manager named Andrew “Coop” Cooper loses his job, his marriage collapses, and he starts burglarizing the homes of his ultra-rich neighbors to maintain the illusion of success. What starts as opportunistic theft spirals into crime, secrets, and murder.

People often compare the show to:

  • Breaking Bad (middle-aged man turns to crime)
  • The White Lotus (satire of wealthy people)
  • Desperate Housewives (suburban secrets and affairs)
  • Succession (wealth, status, moral emptiness)

Critics generally liked the series, especially Jon Hamm’s performance. Rotten Tomatoes scores have been in the high-70s to high-80s depending on the season, while Metacritic labeled it “generally favorable.”

A lot of the appeal comes from:

  • stylish wealthy-suburb visuals
  • dark humor
  • social satire about rich people
  • watching Coop improvise increasingly reckless crimes
  • Hamm playing a charismatic but unraveling lead

Amanda Peet plays Mel Cooper, Coop’s ex-wife. Critics frequently singled out the chemistry between Peet and Hamm as one of the stronger elements of the show.

Reception from viewers has been more divided than critic reviews. On Reddit, some viewers praised the cast and addictive tone, while others criticized plot holes — especially the idea that wealthy homes would lack security cameras.

The series is filmed largely around New York’s Hudson Valley and Westchester-style suburbs to create that polished “old money” atmosphere.
